Like thinking out loud, marginalia, underlinings, penciled emendations, whether detailed or sparse, decipherable or not, are direct transcriptions of unguarded thoughts meant for oneself. A physical record through the hand of the mind. The touch, which may be clear and purposeful, or impatient and agitated, careless or confused reveal the author.

I follow these artifacts, these scraps of personal shorthand, enlarging, editing and recombining them. Their internal structures imaged as if on an x-ray machine reveal our attempts to tether ideas, obligations, and decisions in a world of transition and flux.
